Uno Racing Team showed off their prowess in the 2025 China GT Shanghai on Sunday
News & Announcements China Shanghai International Circuit April 28
On April 27, the opening race of the 2025 China GT Championship was successfully concluded at the Shanghai International Circuit. Uno Racing Team continued its hot form in the second round of the race on Sunday. The No. 98 team, composed of main member Rio and resident driver Anson Chen, broke into the front group through the pit stop strategy, and staged a wonderful attack and defense in the final stage, showing extreme speed.
The No. 85 team, which was very popular this weekend, had excellent competitiveness at the beginning of the second round, but the "EVISU Cowboy" car collided and was damaged in the fierce competition in the first half of the race. Pan Junlin and Wang Yibo had no choice but to withdraw from the battle early, ending the competition of this round early.
The sudden precipitation on Sunday morning turned the second round of the race into a wet showdown. The slippery track surface and low air temperature will pose a severe test to the driver responsible for the first leg. As the driving line gradually dries before the start of the race, the two Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo IIs of the Uno Racing Team both chose dry tires for the start.
To ensure safety at the start of the race, the race committee announced that the race would start under the leadership of the safety car. After the green flag was waved, No. 85 starting driver Pan Junlin made full use of his rich experience in the past competitions. After the start, he quickly raised the tire temperature to the appropriate working window, and then quickly increased the rhythm, completed overtaking continuously, and improved to fifth place in the whole field. Chen Yechong also performed well in the early stage of the race, maintaining a steady performance, and achieved a two-place improvement, ranking among the top ten in the whole field.
The race was one-third of the way through, and a car lost control at Turn 16 and fell into the gravel area, triggering the first safety car of the race. Pan Junlin was able to catch up with his opponent in the same group in front, while Chen Yechong moved up one position again in front of the safety car, coming to ninth in the race and fifth in the GT3 Pro-Am group.
After the green flag was restored, the pit window opened immediately. The team chose to formulate different strategies for the two cars, allowing Pan Junlin, who was in the front row, to continue to stay on the track, aiming to strive for a front track position for the subsequent schedule of the No. 85 car. At the same time, the No. 98 car was recalled, and Rio replaced Chen Yechong to start the second half of the schedule. Rio pushed forward as much as he could after entering the track, surpassing his opponent at Turn 14 with a faster exit speed, and ranked second in the field and the GT3 Pro-Am category.
Due to the tire temperature drop caused by the safety car, Pan Junlin accidentally ran off the track at Turn 16 after the race restarted. Fortunately, this powerful driver fully controlled the car and successfully returned to the race. At the end of the pit stop window, Pan Junlin returned to the pit stop, and Wang Yibo entered the cockpit to prepare for the second half of the race. Unfortunately, the No. 85 car had a collision with other cars during the fight earlier, resulting in the radiator being damaged and unable to continue. After inspection by the team members, they had to choose to end the race early.
Entering the late sprint stage, the No. 98 car was fiercely attacked by the high-class car behind, but Rio did not choose to let the rear opponent pass. With stable defensive skills, he continued to withstand the pressure and maintained the second place in the whole field. At the end of the race, the tire wear of the No. 98 car gradually increased due to the continuous struggle. After 8 laps of exciting offensive and defensive battles, although it finally lost the second place in the field, the No. 98 car's ranking in the GT3 Pro-Am category did not change and it still ranked second.
The checkered flag waved, and the second round of the China GT Shanghai Station officially came to an end. The No. 98 car crossed the finish line in third place. However, during the safety car period in the first half of the race, Chen Yechong, who was on the field at the time, was affected by the vision interference of the car in front and made an illegal overtaking action, causing the No. 98 car group to suffer a 30-second post-race penalty and unfortunately lost the podium. Despite this, both drivers Chen Yechong and Rio showed excellent long-distance speed throughout the second round, completing multiple offensive and defensive battles and delivering wonderful performances.
The journey of the China GT China Supercar Championship Shanghai Station has come to an end. In mid-May, China GT will visit Shanghai again, and all members of the Uno Racing Team will also make full preparations during the off-season, aiming to meet the second race of the year in the best competitive state. Let us also wish the team to challenge for good results again in the "Shanghai Second Battle"!
