Qualifying sprint race against time Yu Kuai/Xu Zhefeng won the pole
Saturday morning, China GT pre-season warm-up qualifying was staged first. This qualifying race is divided into two stages, each lasting 15 minutes, and the starting order of the race is determined by the addition of the official results of the two qualifying races. Although the rain has stopped before the qualifying race and most of the track has returned to dry conditions, the non-racing line is still wet. The semi-dry and wet road surface is full of dangers, which puts higher demands on the drivers' driving skills and vehicle handling performance. In just 15 minutes, all drivers also need to race against time to get the Pirelli dry tires on the car into working condition as soon as possible and seize the limited opportunity to create a fast lap.
In the first qualifying session, the competition for the top spot on the results list focused on 610Racing driver Yang Xiaowei and UNO Racing Team's professional star Fang Junyu. The two drivers constantly rewrote the fastest results in the competition, launched a lap attack, and took turns leading. Yang Xiaowei set a new record at the last moment, winning first place with 1:43.798, followed by Fang Junyu in second place. Another 610 Racing driver Xu Zefeng finished third in this section. Shen Jian of Youpeng Racing, Ou Ziyang of Harmony Racing, Xiao Min of Incipient Racing, and Wang Yongjie of Harmony Racing ranked fourth to seventh respectively.
After a short break, the second qualifying session began, and the two-driver team sent out the second driver. At this time, there were sporadic raindrops falling from the sky. In order to prevent the weather from deteriorating, all cars rushed onto the track immediately. Yu Kuai, the champion driver of 610Racing, took over the car and set a new personal best. He set a 1:42.887 in the last lap to lock in the first place in this section, which is also the fastest lap so far in this pre-season warm-up. Harmony Racing driver Li Hanyu won the second place in this section, and Shen Jian significantly improved his personal fastest lap to rank third. Luo Kailuo of Harmony Racing, Wang Yibo of UNO Racing Team, and Pan Deng of 610Racing ranked fourth to sixth.
Combining the qualifying results of the two sessions, Yu Kuai/Xu Zefeng of the No. 610 team won the pole position of the pre-season warm-up race, and Li Hanyu/Ou Ziyang of the No. 328 team will start in second place. The third-ranked car No. 85 Fang Junyu/Wang Yibo and the fourth-ranked driver No. 91 Shen Jian shared the second row of the starting grid. The No. 915 Pan Deng/Yang Xiaowei, No. 6 Xiao Min, No. 2 Pang Changyuan/Li Sicheng, and No. 7 Wang Yongjie/Luo Kailuo started from the fifth to eighth positions.
Warm-up race showdown
Yu Kuai/Xu Zhefeng triumph in the rain
On Saturday afternoon, the China GT Ningbo pre-season warm-up race started as scheduled. As the rain returned to the track at noon, the "38 minutes + 1 lap" race started again in wet conditions. Xu Zefeng, Ou Ziyang, Fang Junyu, Shen Jian, Yang Xiaowei, Xiao Min, Li Sicheng and Wang Yongjie took to the field to welcome the start.
Due to the poor track conditions, the field was led by the safety car for safety reasons. After two formation laps, the green flag waved, and Fang Junyu immediately launched an offensive at Turn 2 to overtake Ou Ziyang and move up one place, closely following the leader Xu Zefeng in front. Yang Xiaowei behind also completed the overtaking and broke through to fourth place. Li Sicheng, a GTC player driving a Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2, also jumped from the end of the team to fifth place. Then Fang Junyu seized the opportunity to attack the inside line, surpassing Xu Zhefeng on the inside line of Turn 10 and rising to the top. Xu Zhefeng tried to counterattack but Fang Junyu immediately blocked the route and resolved the attack.
Ou Ziyang, who was temporarily ranked third, accidentally slipped off the track and fell into the gravel buffer zone, and the cars behind him all got a promotion. This accident triggered the deployment of the safety car. At this time, the order on the field was Fang Junyu, Xu Zhefeng, Yang Xiaowei, Li Sicheng, Xiao Min, Wang Yongjie, and Shen Jian.
On the 6th lap, the safety car withdrew and the green flag was waved again. Fang Junyu immediately established an advantage, while Yang Xiaowei surpassed his teammate Xu Zhefeng to come in second. After one lap, the pit stop window opened, and Xu Zhefeng was the first to enter the maintenance area. He handed over the No. 610 Audi R8 LMS GT3 EVO II to Yu Kuai to take the helm. In the same lap, Li Sicheng, Shen Jian, and Wang Yongjie also made pit stops. Li Sicheng and Wang Yongjie were replaced by their teammates Pang Changyuan and Luo Kailuo respectively.
Fang Junyu and Yang Xiaowei returned to the pit area in the next lap to replace their respective teammates Wang Yibo and Pan Deng. The No. 610 car, which had returned to the field, quickly narrowed the gap and successfully executed the "Undercut" strategy to regain the lead. Although Pan Deng was ahead of Wang Yibo when he left the pit, the rookie encountered a collision after returning to the track and was unfortunately eliminated. The race was once again interrupted by the safety car, and the field was compressed again.
After the race resumed, the drivers only had a few laps left to sprint. With a wide field ahead, Yu Kuai took full advantage of his speed and left in a dusty state. He was the first to pass the waving checkered flag. He and his teammates reached the top of the China GT podium for the first time. Wang Yibo maintained a steady pace in the race. He bid farewell to the shadow of yesterday's accident, successfully overcame the test of the rain battle and resisted the pursuit of the strong rivals behind, and maintained the second place in the whole field until the finish line, and won the runner-up with Fang Junyu. Professional driver Luo Kailuo, who took over the No. 7 BMW M4 GT4, went all out in the rain to secure third place. He once caught up to the rear of Wang Yibo's car in front of him, but unfortunately the remaining time was not enough for him to go further. With his outstanding performance, Luo Kailuo and his teammate Wang Yongjie won the GTS group victory.
Pang Changyuan defended his advantage. He and Li Sicheng finished fourth and the GTC group champion. Xiao Min retained fifth and the group victory despite being penalized. Shen Jian won sixth in this accident-prone race.
The pre-season warm-up has come to an end. China GT will officially welcome the opening game of the new season at the Shanghai International Circuit from April 25 to 27. We look forward to all the racing heroes gathering on the field again to bring us exciting competitions.
