GTWC Asia Climax Racing: Two extreme racing heroes sharpen their swords to compete in Mandalika
News & Announcements Indonesia Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit May 9
From May 9 to 11, the second round of the 2025 GT World Challenge Asia Cup (GTWC Asia) will be held at the Mandalika International Circuit in Indonesia! Climax Racing will once again take on the field with two Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo cars, with the No. 2 car (Zhou Bihuang/Ralf Aron) and the No. 44 car (Zhang Yaqi/Ling Kang) forming a double-line ace lineup of Pro-Am and Silver-Am, aiming for the honor of Indonesia's first international car race.
Car No. 2 will be driven by Climax Racing’s chief driver Zhou Bihuang and Mercedes-AMG official driver Ralf Aron. The two have been partners since the Asian Le Mans Series and have formed a tacit cooperation in many events, which will also provide solid support for their first Indonesian journey. The No. 44 car will continue to be driven by the Chinese team Zhang Yaqi and Ling Kang. The two Chinese drivers are committed to setting records in the international GT arena. Coming to Indonesia for the first time, they will also go all out for the best results in the group.
At the Sepang opener last month, Ralf Aron of car No. 2 showed strong strength in qualifying and won the pole position in Q2. In the first round, car No. 2 was unfortunately involved in a multi-car accident. The next day, it was hit by a car behind it while leading the whole race, and missed the championship. The two Chinese drivers of car No. 44 showed their tenacious fighting spirit. Zhang Yaqi and Ling Kang won the fifth place in the Silver-Am category in the first round, but unfortunately withdrew from the competition early in the second round due to car failure. Although it did not achieve the ideal results, Climax Racing showed its potential in speed and strategy, and will definitely return to the leading group in the best condition this weekend.
As a bright new star on the Southeast Asian track map, the Mandalika International Circuit has built a unique competitive stage with its 4.313-kilometer exquisite layout and 17 corners. The track goes clockwise around the south coast of Lombok Island, integrating high-speed corners and medium- and low-speed technical combination corners. Although there is no super-long straight road to bring a hearty sprint, every corner gap contains ever-changing opportunities. In addition, the local tropical climate with high temperature and humidity adds many challenges to the competition, which not only tests the team's fine tuning of the car and tires, but also puts forward almost strict requirements on the driver's physical fitness and concentration.
Climax Racing set foot on the hot land of Indonesia for the first time, starting the competition for the first international car race in Mandalika, and welcoming unprecedented challenges and opportunities. The team will work together to leave a glorious trail of extreme racing on the Mandalika track and write a new chapter with bold strokes.
