GTWC Asia Cup Climax Racing Sepang on Sunday
News & Announcements Malaysia Sepang International Circuit April 14
On April 13, the second round of the GT World Challenge Asia Cup (GTWC Asia) was held at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia! Climax Racing No. 2 car team Zhou Bihuang and Ralf Aron performed well throughout the race, starting from pole position and continuing to lead the race, but suffered a collision accident at the last moment and fell to sixth in the Pro-Am category. No. 44 car team Zhang Yaqi and Ling Kang had the opportunity to hit the podium in the Silver-Am category, but stopped moving forward due to a sudden vehicle failure at the end of the race.
No. 2 Car Team (Zhou Bihuang/Ralf Aron)
No. 2 car team started from pole position throughout the race on Sunday. Ralf Aron, who was responsible for the starting task, showed extremely strong psychological qualities, maintaining the leading position in the chaotic starting stage, and leading the race in the first half of the race. Although he was caught up by the car behind him near the halfway point, the official Mercedes-AMG driver withstood the pressure and maintained the lead throughout the race.
After the halfway pit stop, Zhou Bihuang took over and continued to hold the front line with the first position of the whole field. The accident triggered the yellow flag and the safety car stage in the middle of the race. Zhou Bihuang kept the rhythm and continued to maintain the first position after the race restarted. However, the race suddenly changed in the final stage. Although Zhou Bihuang successfully defended many times, the car was unfortunately hit by the car behind at Turn 2 in the last 5 minutes of the countdown, losing the leading position and the chance to win the championship, and finally finished sixth in the Pro-Am group.
Car No. 44 ** (Zhang Yaqi/Ling Kang)**
Car No. 44 started from the 25th place and the 9th place in the Silver-Am category. Experienced professional driver Ling Kang was responsible for the start of the race on Sunday. In the fierce competition in the first half, Ling Kang showed rich experience and fierce offensive, and successfully rushed to the 20th place before pit stop.
Afterwards, Zhang Yaqi took over the baton in the pit area. The yellow flag and the safety car gave the No. 44 car a chance to chase forward at the last minute. After the race was restarted, Zhang Yaqi quickly advanced and once came to the fourth place in the Silver-Am group. Unfortunately, when the race was about to end, the blue car unexpectedly had a mechanical failure, and Zhang Yaqi was forced to drive back to the pit area in advance, ending the second round of competition.
Although we missed the podium, Climax Racing showed exciting speed and execution in Sepang weekend. We will continue to fight at the Mandalika International Circuit in Indonesia from May 9th to 11th, and set off again to strive for higher honors!
