SEAT Motorsport Data

Brand Overview
SEAT boasts a rich and successful heritage in motorsport, primarily driven by its dedicated performance division, SEAT Sport. The brand first made its mark on the global stage in the 1990s in rallying, where the Ibiza Kit Car sensationally clinched the FIA 2-Litre World Rally Cup for three consecutive years (1996-1998). This success paved the way for their entry into the top tier with the Córdoba WRC. However, SEAT's most significant achievements came in touring car racing. Competing in the prestigious World Touring Car Championship (WTCC), the SEAT León became a dominant force. The team made history by pioneering diesel technology, securing the 2008 and 2009 Manufacturers' and Drivers' championships with the formidable León TDI. Drivers Yvan Muller and Gabriele Tarquini piloted the cars to their respective titles, marking the first time a diesel car had won a major FIA world championship. In recent years, the motorsport legacy has been passed to its performance-oriented sub-brand, Cupra. Under the Cupra Racing banner, the brand continues its competitive dominance in global TCR series with the Cupra León Competición and has ventured into innovative electric motorsport like Extreme E. This evolution underscores a continuous commitment to performance and innovation, cementing a legacy that began on rally stages and now thrives on circuits worldwide.
