2025 GT World Challenge Asia Cup Opening Race Sepang Station Ends Absolute Team Car Steady and Steady Reach Class Podium ...
The 2025 GT World Challenge Asia Cup Malaysia Sepang Station officially ended today. In the second round of the race on Sunday, Akash Nandy and Huang Ruohan of the Absolute Corse team once again reached the class podium, making an excellent start for this season with two rounds of runner-up in the Silver-Am class. At the same time, the two new teams of the Absolute Team also accumulated valuable experience in the competition and showed a positive growth momentum.
Sepang was still hot and muggy on the day of the race, posing a huge challenge to the drivers' physical fitness and team strategy. The second round of the race started at 11:30 noon. Akash Nandy, driving the No. 29 Absolute Corse Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2, performed steadily in the early stages of the race, always staying at the forefront of the group in the Silver-Am category, and had direct dialogues with many international GT race stars. After entering the mandatory pit stop window, Huang Ruohan took over the car and took the opportunity to narrow the gap with the car in front during the safety car phase. In the final stage of the race, Huang Ruohan continued to advance and eventually completed multiple promotions, starting from the 14th place and crossing the finish line in the ninth place of the whole field, and continued the podium results on Saturday with the second place in the Silver-Am category.
After the race, Akash Nandy said: "We are very happy with our performance this weekend. It is a good start to our 2025 season, scoring points in both rounds and taking second place twice in the Silver-Am category. Considering we did not have any testing before the race, I am proud of the team's efforts and that we were able to compete from the beginning. Although we struggled with the balance of the car throughout the weekend, I am sure that with more driving miles and setting optimization, we can unlock more potential. Special thanks to Bin Zayed International for their continued support - it is crucial for us. Thanks also to Absolute The hard work of the Corse team. I look forward to continuing this momentum and facing the next challenges. "
Huang Ruohan added: "Due to logistics issues, our planned second car was not able to arrive, which gave us much less opportunity to obtain key data than our opponents. The car arrived too late, making it difficult for us to fully exert its strength. Both rounds were difficult, but we still got points and two class podiums. But we also know that there is still a lot of potential to be tapped, and we look forward to further improving our performance in Indonesia and unlocking more capabilities of this new car. "
For the Absolute Team Porsche team, the No. 321 Porsche 911 GT3 R team consisting of Lu Wenlong and Li Xuanyu showed stable performance in the race. Lu Wenlong responded cautiously at the start and successfully avoided the chaos in the middle and late stages. After entering the second half, Li Xuanyu took over the car and continued to move forward, eventually leading the team to finish 15th overall and fifth in the Silver-Am category. This result puts them in third place in the category standings, laying a solid foundation for the next race.
Li Xuanyu said after the race: "I learned a lot this weekend, experienced a lot of exciting battles on the track, and enjoyed the challenge. Now we have to prepare well for the next race in Mandalika."
Lu Wenlong said: "I really enjoyed the 2025 season opener. We were still trying to find the rhythm of the car throughout practice, but we showed a good performance on Saturday and successfully won the group podium. Although there were some problems in today's race, overall it was a positive start to the season."
For the No. 911 team, Wang Zhongwei and French driver Patrick Pilet teamed up to show strong pursuit ability in the early stages of the race. Pilet quickly climbed the rankings at the start, and Wang Zhongwei continued to maintain the competitive rhythm after taking over. However, the team was penalized to pass through the pit area due to multiple track limit violations, and the race committee deployed the safety car in the second half, which made the penalty more costly and seriously affected their final results. Despite this, the two drivers still brought the car back and won the 18th place in the whole field and the 8th place in the Pro-Am category.
Wang Zhongwei said: "This is my first time driving a 911 GT3 R car, so it is difficult to fully exert the car's limits at the beginning, but as the race weekend progresses, my performance has gradually improved. Patrick gave me very good reference and support, and I gradually narrowed the gap. I hope we can continue to improve on this basis and have a stronger performance in the next stop."
Patrick "It was a tough weekend for us, and the team worked hard to find the balance of the car and make it easier to drive," said Pilet. "We improved throughout the weekend, and Wang Zhongwei performed very well, so we have to stay positive and look forward to the next race."
In addition, Jean-Baptiste Simmenauer and Anderson Tanoto's No. 98 Absolute Corse Ferrari 296 GT3 retired in the second half of the race due to an accident, regrettably ending their journey in this race.
The race in Sepang, Malaysia has come to an end. Absolute Corse and Absolute Racing will continue to develop the car and the drivers in the next period of time, and strive to reach new heights and strive for better results in the next race - Mandelica International Circuit, Indonesia.
