China GT Ningbo pre-season warm-up ended, Uno Racing won the second place despite the wind and rain
News & Announcements China Ningbo International Circuit March 31
From March 28th to 29th, the 2025 China GT China Supercar Championship pre-season warm-up was held at Ningbo International Circuit. Although the two-day track time was constantly affected by weather factors, Wang Yibo and Fang Junyu, who represented the Uno Racing Team, still performed well. In the warm-up race on Saturday, the two drivers overcame the challenges brought by the rain and drove the No. 85 car together to achieve a good result of runner-up.
The No. 85 Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II car driven by Wang Yibo and Fang Junyu formulated this pre-season warm-up plan before the race. Considering the layout characteristics of the Ningbo circuit and the weather conditions this weekend, Uno Racing adjusted the vehicle settings to cope with the challenges of slippery roads.
After the first practice session on Friday morning, professional driver Fang Junyu was the first to get into the car and get a comprehensive understanding of the road conditions and weather conditions of the Ningbo track. The No. 85 car returned to the maintenance area after a short test run. After listening to Fang Junyu's track feedback and driving suggestions, Wang Yibo officially entered the cockpit and challenged driving a GT3 car in the rain for the first time.
After driving on the track, Wang Yibo mainly played stably. There was a lot of floating water on the slippery track surface, and the car would slip if it was not driven properly. After many laps of practice, he continued to improve his lap time and gradually adapted to the GT3 car driving work under wet and slippery conditions.
After a short lunch break, the second practice session officially started in the afternoon. As the rain intensified, the challenge of controlling the vehicle became more intense. Unfortunately, while trying to push the limits of the car, Wang Yibo hit a large area of water in the braking area of Turn 9, causing the car to slide sideways and accidentally collide with the guardrail. After the damaged car returned to the maintenance area, the team conducted a comprehensive inspection.
To ensure that the No. 85 car participates in the warm-up race on Saturday in good condition. The team chose to be conservative and continued to use the No. 16 car in the last practice session on Friday. Wang Yibo drove onto the track again and started a long-distance test run, and refreshed his personal fastest lap in the final stage of practice. After all the official practice sessions on Friday were completed, Wang Yibo and Fang Junyu won the second place in the GT3 Pro-Am category.
On Saturday morning, after an all-night repair by the Uno Racing Team, the No. 85 car was fully restored and participated in the qualifying competition in the best condition. Hong Kong star Fong Chun-yu took the lead in driving the car to participate in the qualifying competition and made a score of 1:44.265 in the slippery environment, ranking second in the field. As the rain continued to increase, Wang Yibo appeared in the second quarter of qualifying. He also successfully overcame the huge challenges brought by driving in the rain again and won the second place in the GT3 Pro-Am category.
In the afternoon, the warm-up race officially started, but the track conditions still did not improve. The continuous rain made the race start under the leadership of the safety car. Fang Junyu drove the No. 85 car to start and took the lead after the green flag.
After that, Fang Junyu continued to push the car forward and tried to widen the gap, but due to an unexpected situation on the field when the pit window was opened, the race again dispatched the safety car, which unfortunately eliminated Fang Junyu's leading advantage. Wang Yibo took over the car in the second half of the race, performed steadily, and brought the car back safely under the bad track conditions. In the end, the No. 85 car crossed the finish line as the runner-up in the overall race and the runner-up in the GT3 Pro-Am category. The two drivers Wang Yibo and Fang Junyu once again stepped onto the podium together since last year's GTSC Zhuhai Station.
After the race, the team engineer said: "Throughout the weekend, facing the complex weather conditions and unexpected factors such as accidents during the practice session, Wang Yibo, who came to the Ningbo track for the first time, always maintained a positive attitude. Although the practice time and accumulated mileage were limited, his race speed was still a certain distance away from other experienced gentleman drivers on the field, But he maintained a zero-error performance in the race under bad weather conditions and finally climbed onto the podium. There is no doubt that compared to a piece of competition results, the learning path of unremitting efforts, self-breakthrough, overcoming inner demons, and gaining results is more important for Wang Yibo, who is new to the GT3 event. "
So far, Uno Racing Team has successfully completed the pre-season warm-up of the China GT China Supercar Championship. The team and drivers have accumulated experience in two days and look forward to continuing to present more exciting performances to everyone in the future schedule. Stay tuned!
