Porsche Carrera Cup Asia to Launch New-Generation 911 Cup (992.2) in 2026
News & Announcements August 11
The Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, widely regarded as the premier one-make GT championship in the region, will enter a new chapter in 2026 with the arrival of the Porsche 911 Cup (992.2). This updated model will replace the long-serving 911 GT3 Cup, bringing the Asian series in line with Porsche Motorsport's revised global naming strategy and technical direction.
Fresh Identity for the Series
Since the series began in 2003, every grid has been filled with the "GT3 Cup" badge. From next season, that familiar label will make way for the more streamlined 911 Cup name. The change reflects Porsche's decision to reserve "GT" designations for multi-manufacturer GT competition — such as the GT3 R in endurance racing — while giving its one-make cars a clear, unified identity under the "Cup" banner.
The entire field will adopt the 992.2-generation 911 Cup from the opening round, ensuring that every driver competes with the same latest-spec platform used in Porsche's flagship one-make championships worldwide.
Key Technical Advancements
The introduction of the 911 Cup brings with it a range of performance and usability upgrades:
- Engine Output: 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six producing 382 kW (520 PS), an increase of 10 PS over the previous generation, with 470 Nm of torque and an 8,750 rpm limit.
- Electronics: Bosch Gen-5 racing ABS and Porsche Motorsport Traction Control (PMTC) as standard, both adjustable from the cockpit to suit track conditions.
- Aerodynamic Package: New three-piece front lip, refined underbody design, and simplified 13-position swan-neck rear wing adjustment for precise tuning and easier maintenance.
- Cooling and Brakes: Central water cooler repositioned to improve brake airflow, larger 380×35 mm front discs, and enhanced ducting for stable performance over race distance.
- Eco-Friendly Fuel Capability: Compatible with FIA "Advanced Sustainable" eFuels, including the 79.7% renewable blend proven in other Porsche one-make series, offering up to a 66% CO₂ reduction.
What It Means for the 2026 Season
With improved braking stability, more predictable aero balance, and greater driver-adjustable controls, the 992.2 911 Cup is expected to create even closer battles on the varied circuits of the Carrera Cup Asia calendar — from the sweeping corners of Sepang to the tight street layouts of Marina Bay and Bangkok. The upgrades also aim to reduce running costs, something both privateer teams and established outfits will welcome.
Anticipation Builds
Early testers in the region have praised the car's sharper front-end response, more consistent brake feel, and ability to maintain pace on aging tires. These traits should make the new model a favorite among both seasoned professionals and rising talents.
The Road Ahead
As the Asian flagship in Porsche's one-make pyramid, the Carrera Cup Asia's adoption of the 911 Cup will be closely watched by fans and competitors alike. The 2026 season promises to deliver faster lap times, tighter racing, and a fresh chapter in the series' two-decade history.
