Máximo Cortés Chavarri, born on April 13, 1988, is a Spanish former racing driver. Cortés began his motorsport career in karting in 1997, remaining active in the sport until 2004. He transitioned to single-seater racing in 2005, becoming the runner-up in the Spanish Formula Junior Championship. In 2006, he joined TEC Auto in the Spanish Formula Three Championship, securing two victories and finishing third in the championship.
His most successful year was 2007, continuing with TEC Auto in the Spanish Formula Three Championship. He dominated the season with six race wins, ultimately winning the championship title ahead of his teammate, Marco Barba. In 2008, Cortés moved to the World Series by Renault with Pons Racing. However, due to financial constraints, he was replaced by Aleix Alcaraz after only four race weekends, finishing 26th overall. He briefly returned to the Spanish Formula Three at the end of the season as a guest driver, winning one race.
In 2009, finding no opportunities in Formula racing, Cortés switched to the Le Mans Series with Hache Team. However, the unreliable Lucchini LMP2/04 car prevented him from finishing any races and scoring points. In 2010, after initially being without a drive, he participated in a Superleague Formula race weekend for Sporting Lisbon, managed by Drivex. Following appearances in the European Le Mans Series in 2011, Cortés concluded his racing career in late 2013. Currently, Máximo Cortés is the director of Driveland Events, co-organizer of the national Renault Cup since 2020.
