Maserati Motorsport Data
Brand Overview
Maserati's identity is inextricably linked to motorsport, a passion embedded in its DNA since its founding. The Maserati brothers were racers themselves, and the brand quickly achieved fame on the track, securing victories at prestigious events like the Targa Florio and, remarkably, back-to-back wins at the Indianapolis 500 in 1939 and 1940. However, the Trident's most legendary era unfolded in the 1950s with the iconic 250F. Piloted by the legendary Juan Manuel Fangio, this masterpiece of engineering secured the Formula One World Championship in 1957, cementing Maserati's place at the pinnacle of open-wheel racing. Beyond Grand Prix, Maserati also excelled in sports car racing with innovative designs like the "Birdcage" Tipo 60/61, renowned for its intricate chassis and competitive spirit. After a long hiatus, Maserati made a triumphant return to competition in the 21st century with the formidable MC12. Based on the Ferrari Enzo, the MC12 GT1 was a force of nature, utterly dominating the FIA GT Championship with multiple team and driver titles between 2005 and 2010. Today, this racing heritage continues to evolve. Maserati has re-entered the single-seater world in the all-electric Formula E championship and is active in GT racing with the MC20 GT2, proving that the competitive spirit that defined its past is powerfully driving its future.
