TOYOTA GAZOO Racing China GR86 Cup 2025 season is about to kick off in Shanghai!
News & Announcements China Shanghai International Circuit May 12
From May 16 to 18, the 2025 TOYOTA GAZOO Racing China GR86 Cup will kick off the new season at the Shanghai International Circuit. The new season's new lineup and new gameplay will debut in Shanghai, and the FIA Formula 4 China Championship, China GT China Supercar Championship, and Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia Challenge, which will be held at the same venue, will join hands with the event to present a racing feast on the F1 track.
The Speed Hall is Renewed
In the new season, while continuing the luxurious lineup of last season, the event has also attracted more new teams and racing stars to participate. Traditional teams such as Lifeng Racing, DTM Racing, Prime Racing, Jike Team, and Huihe Racing will compete again, and new teams such as Shanxi Luminous Team, Leo Team, and LEVEL Racing will debut in Shanghai.
As the venue for the F1 Chinese Grand Prix, the Shanghai International Circuit is a speed palace in the hearts of countless drivers. Designed by the well-known F1 track design company Tiktok, the main track is 5.451 kilometers long and presents the Chinese character "上", which is taken from the place name "Shanghai" and contains the meaning of "prospering day by day".
The track contains 16 corners with a width of between 13 and 15 meters. Among them, the T1-T3 combination corners are compactly laid out, shrinking in a spiral shape with changes in the slope, requiring precise steering and braking operations; the straight road with a maximum length of 1,175 meters and a rich high-speed corner layout challenge the performance of the car and the courage of the driver.
The event will be unlocked on the track for the first time in the new season opener, and a group of contestants will step onto the center stage of world motor sports.
Brand-new upgrade debut
The event will be upgraded in the 2025 season, and many new gameplays of the new season will be officially launched in the Shanghai opener.
In the 2025 season, a total of 2 hours of open practice will be added to each station, which will help drivers to deeply familiarize themselves with the track and improve their skills by increasing the driving time on the track. As the only FIA Grade 1 circuit in my country, Shanghai International Circuit is extremely challenging. Open practice will provide drivers with an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the track, and the significance of the new race system is expected to be fully demonstrated in Shanghai.
This season's event also added new rules for determining the starting position. According to the new rules, the starting position for the first round of each station will be determined by the qualifying results. The starting position for the second round will be in the form of a reverse start, and the specific number of reverse positions will be drawn by the first round champion from the three numbers 6, 8, and 10.
The new starting grid rules bring more uncertainty to the race, and the reverse starting order will also lead to more overtaking. This innovative gameplay will also be used in Shanghai.
Speed carnival with three major events
In Shanghai, the 2025 TOYOTA GAZOO Racing China GR86 Cup will be held at the same time as the FIA Formula 4 China Championship, China GT China Supercar Championship, and Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia Challenge. The event will work together with the three major events to present a colorful racing weekend.
The FIA Formula 4 China Championship was founded in 2015 and is a formula series in China authorized by the International Automobile Federation. Formula 4 is a formula event founded by the International Automobile Federation in 2014, aiming to fill the gap between karting and F3, and to build a promotion path for young drivers from karting to F4, then to F3, F2, and finally to F1.
China GT is a national GT event, gathering the world-famous GT3, GT4, and GTC racing cars, and gathering top Chinese and foreign drivers. With the strong speed of the car and the star-studded driver lineup, China GT has attracted much attention from both inside and outside the industry.
The Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia Challenge started in 2012 and is a single-brand event held by Lamborghini. 254 drivers from 30 different countries have participated in the series, and the average number of participants is still growing steadily.
The co-hosting of the three top events makes the Shanghai station more attractive. The top performance and competitive level of Formula 4 and GT racing will also inspire the participants to continue to move forward.
The new season is about to start at the Shanghai International Circuit. We look forward to starting a new journey with you!
