Super Taikyu Series Overview

The Super Taikyu Series, established in 1991, is a Japanese endurance racing championship featuring a diverse range of vehicles, from minimally modified production cars to internationally homologated GT3, GT4, and TCR machines. The series comprises multiple classes, including ST-X for GT3 cars, ST-Z for GT4 cars, ST-TCR for TCR-spec vehicles, and ST-Q for manufacturer-developed, non-homologated special racing vehicles. Races are held across Japan's major circuits, with formats ranging from three-hour sprints to the marquee Fuji Super TEC 24 Hours at Fuji Speedway. In 2024, the series entered a new three-year partnership with Bridgestone as the official tire supplier. The 2024 season featured seven rounds, beginning at Sportsland Sugo in April and concluding at Fuji Speedway in November. The Super Taikyu Series continues to be a platform for manufacturers to develop and showcase innovative technologies, including alternative fuel vehicles, contributing to its reputation as a dynamic and forward-thinking championship.

Super Taikyu Series Rating and Reviews

Super Taikyu is a great endurance school because the grid runs from production-based cars to GT3, GT4 and development entries, so traffic judgement is never optional. Drivers need predictable lines, clean radio calls and patience with big closing-speed differences; forcing every pass will just cook the tyres or damage the car. Fuji puts fuel, brakes and night procedures under real pressure, while Sugo and Okayama make track position more important. The class variety and manufacturer development work are genuinely interesting, and the paddock has a practical, team-focused feel. With so many categories, scrutineering notes, class bulletins and safety-car instructions must stay crystal clear, especially for the Fuji 24H. Excellent seat time and engineering value, though the rules can be a lot for newcomers.
