Formula E World Championship Overview

The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship is a premier motorsport series featuring single-seater, all-electric race cars competing on urban circuits worldwide. Established in 2014, Formula E was conceived by then-FIA President Jean Todt and entrepreneur Alejandro Agag to promote sustainable mobility and accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles.

Race Format and Scoring: Each Formula E event, known as an E-Prix, typically unfolds over a single day, encompassing practice sessions, a qualifying round, and the main race. The qualifying phase employs a group-based system, culminating in head-to-head duels to determine the starting grid. Points are awarded to the top ten finishers, with additional points granted for securing pole position and recording the fastest lap within the top ten.

Technological Evolution: The championship has witnessed significant technological advancements since its inception. The latest Gen3 cars, introduced in Season 9 (2022–2023), are lighter and more powerful, achieving top speeds up to 200 mph (approximately 320 km/h). These vehicles feature enhanced battery efficiency, allowing drivers to complete races without mid-race car swaps, a necessity in earlier seasons.

Sustainability Initiatives: Formula E is committed to environmental sustainability, achieving net-zero carbon emissions since its inception. The series utilizes renewable energy sources, implements sustainable materials in car construction, and optimizes logistics to minimize its carbon footprint.

Global Reach: The championship's calendar spans iconic cities across multiple continents, bringing electric racing directly to urban audiences. This approach not only showcases the potential of electric mobility in everyday settings but also engages diverse fan bases worldwide.

Through its blend of cutting-edge technology, competitive racing, and environmental advocacy, Formula E continues to redefine the landscape of motorsport, driving innovation and sustainability in the automotive industry.
