Lukas Moraes, born on September 2, 1991, is a Brazilian off-road rally raid driver who has quickly risen to prominence on the international stage. Currently racing for Toyota Gazoo Racing in the World Rally-Raid Championship (W2RC), with co-driver Armand Monleón, Moraes is also backed by Red Bull, marking him as one of the sport's most exciting talents. Moraes' early racing career saw him achieve significant success in South America, including two victories in the South American Mitsubishi Cup and three Brazilian championships. He also conquered the gruelling Rally dos Sertões twice, in 2019 and 2022, demonstrating his ability to handle the toughest terrains.
Moraes made a stunning Dakar Rally debut in 2023, driving a Toyota for Overdrive Racing alongside experienced co-driver Timo Gottschalk. He quickly established himself as a frontrunner, finishing an impressive third overall, behind rally raid legends Nasser Al-Attiyah and Sebastien Loeb. In 2024, partnering with Armand Monleón, Moraes continued to impress, winning a stage in the Dakar Rally. Although a broken damper dashed his podium hopes, he showcased his competitive spirit throughout the season, securing a podium finish at the Rally Raid Portugal. In the 2025 Dakar Rally, Moraes faced controversy with a suspended disqualification but still managed to win the final stage.
Driving the Toyota GR DKR Hilux, Moraes continues to be a force to be reckoned with in the rally raid world. His ambition for the 2025 Dakar is high. With more experience and one of the most race-proven cars, Lucas and Armand aim high, even against an unprecedented number of factory teams.
