The F1 Sprintis a shorter race, approximately 100km in length, that is held at select Grand Prix weekends. Introduced in 2021, itspurpose is to provide more competitive action throughout the race weekend. The F1 Sprint isa standalone event within the race weekend; it does not determine the starting grid for the main Grand Prix on Sunday. Instead, there are separate qualifying sessions for both the Sprint and the Grand Prix. The qualifying forthe F1 Sprint is known as the 'Sprint Shootout' and follows a shorter format than the traditional Grand Prix qualifying.Points are awarded to the top eight finishers of the F1 Sprint, whichcontribute to the drivers' and constructors' World Championship standings.This format has evolved since its inception, with changes made to the points allocation and the structure of the race weekend to enhancethe spectacle for fans. The F1 Sprint encourages drivers to race flat-out from start to finish, as there are no mandatory pit stops required during this shorter race format.
