Karl Wendlinger, born on December 20, 1968, is a retired Austrian racing driver. Wendlinger began his motorsport journey in karting, achieving success in the German POP-Kart Championship in 1984. He transitioned to Formula Ford in 1987, winning the Austrian Championship in his first attempt. Progressing to German Formula 3, he secured the title in 1989. This achievement led to a place in the Mercedes-Benz sportscar team in 1990, driving the Sauber-Mercedes C11, and a debut in the German Touring Car Championship (DTM).

Wendlinger's Formula One career spanned from 1991 to 1995, with 41 starts. He drove for Leyton House, March, and Sauber. In 1994, a serious accident during practice for the Monaco Grand Prix in his Sauber-Mercedes C 13, significantly impacted his F1 career, despite later entries in the following season. After Formula One, Wendlinger participated in various racing series, including FIA GT Championship, American Le Mans Series and the 24 Hours of Le Mans, securing two GTS class victories in 1999 and 2000. He has also been part of the JetAlliance Racing team, competing in the FIA GT Championship. Wendlinger became a Mercedes-AMG Brand Ambassador as of 2012.
