LOLA Motorsport Data
Brand Overview
Lola Cars was a legendary British race car engineering company, celebrated as one of the most prolific and versatile constructors in motorsport history. Founded in 1958 by Eric Broadley, Lola's primary business was designing and building chassis for customer teams across a vast spectrum of racing disciplines. The company achieved its most dominant success in American open-wheel racing, where its chassis became the benchmark in series like CART and IndyCar, securing numerous championships and Indianapolis 500 victories with legendary drivers such as Mario Andretti, Al Unser Jr., and Nigel Mansell. Lola also forged a formidable reputation in sports car racing; its iconic T70 became a classic of the 1960s, and its modern-era Le Mans Prototypes (LMP) were a consistent presence at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and in global endurance series. While its own works Formula 1 efforts were short-lived, most notably the ill-fated 1997 project, Lola was a long-term chassis supplier to various F1 teams. The company's engineering prowess was also fundamental to junior categories like Formula 3000 and Formula 5000, shaping the careers of countless drivers. After the original company ceased operations in 2012, the Lola brand was revived in 2022, marking a new chapter with a planned entry into the Formula E World Championship.
