Shinya Michimi is a Japanese racing driver with experience in both open-wheel and sports car racing. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1993, but currently residing in Tokyo, Michimi's career began with karting in the United States before he transitioned to racing in Japan. He won the Formula Toyota Racing School (FTRS) Scholarship, placing him among notable alumni like Kazuki Nakajima and Kamui Kobayashi. This scholarship enabled him to compete in the Formula Challenge Japan (FCJ) series, a precursor to the current FIA F4 Japanese Championship, where he raced against talents like Kenta Yamashita and Ryo Hirakawa.
Michimi's career has taken him across the globe. He has raced in the Auto GP World Series, achieving a race win at Estoril. More recently, he has focused on sports car racing, with appearances in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America, where he secured multiple wins and a championship title. He has also competed in the GT300 class of the Super GT Series in Japan.
In IMSA, Michimi has driven for teams like Meyer Shank Racing, participating in the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup races. He secured his first WeatherTech Championship pole position at Road Atlanta in 2020, demonstrating his skill and adaptability in GT machinery. Outside of racing, Michimi is known to be an avid sim racer.
