Currently, he competes in the IndyCar Series, driving the No. 3 Dallara-Chevrolet for Team Penske. Before making his mark in IndyCar, McLaughlin dominated the Supercars Championship, securing drivers' titles in 2018, 2019, and 2020.

McLaughlin's journey in motorsport began at a young age, transitioning from karting to the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series in 2010. His career quickly gained momentum, marked by his debut in the Supercars Championship at the 2012 Sandown 500. A full-time drive with Garry Rogers Motorsport followed, leading to his first Supercars race victory in 2013, making him the youngest driver to achieve this milestone.
