Robert Wickens, born on March 13, 1989, is a Canadian racing driver who has demonstrated incredible resilience and determination throughout his career. Wickens began his racing journey in karting and quickly progressed through the ranks, showcasing his talent in various series, including Formula BMW USA, Formula Renault, and Formula 3 Euro Series. He achieved significant success early on, securing the Formula BMW USA championship in 2006 and the Formula Renault 3.5 Series title in 2011. He also finished as the runner-up in the FIA Formula Two Championship in 2009 and the GP3 Series in 2010.

Wickens transitioned to the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) from 2012 to 2017, achieving multiple wins and podium finishes. In 2018, he embarked on his IndyCar Series career with Schmidt Peterson Motorsports, immediately making an impact by claiming pole position in his debut race. However, his promising season was tragically cut short due to a severe spinal cord injury sustained in a crash at Pocono Raceway. Despite the life-altering injuries, Wickens vowed to return to racing.

Defying expectations, Wickens made a remarkable comeback to professional racing in 2022, competing in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge with Bryan Herta Autosport, driving a Hyundai equipped with hand controls. In an inspiring display of skill and perseverance, he co-drove to the TCR championship in 2023. His continued success serves as an inspiration to many, and he has also become a trailblazer in developing new technologies for disabled racers.
