KymiRing

KymiRing is a modern motorsport circuit located in Iitti, Finland, approximately 130 kilometers northeast of Helsinki. Officially opened in 2019, the track was designed to meet the highest international standards, aiming to host premier racing events including MotoGP, World Superbike, and other prominent series.

Circuit Layout and Specifications

The main circuit at KymiRing measures 4.65 kilometers (2.89 miles) in length, featuring a combination of 17 turns. The layout is characterized by a mix of high-speed straights and technical corners, designed to challenge riders and drivers with varying skill sets. The elevation changes and camber variations add complexity, making it a demanding venue for vehicle setup and driver precision.

The track surface is asphalt, engineered to provide optimal grip and durability under diverse weather conditions, which are typical in the Finnish climate. The width of the racing line ranges from 12 to 15 meters, allowing multiple racing lines and overtaking opportunities.

KymiRing boasts state-of-the-art facilities including a modern pit complex, grandstands with a seating capacity of approximately 30,000 spectators, and comprehensive paddock areas. The circuit incorporates advanced safety features such as extensive run-off zones, TecPro barriers, and gravel traps, aligning with FIA Grade 1 and FIM Grade A standards.

Motorsport Events and Significance

Although the circuit’s debut on the international stage faced scheduling challenges, including the cancellation of its initially planned MotoGP debut in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, KymiRing remains a significant addition to the Nordic motorsport landscape. It represents Finland’s first purpose-built Grand Prix circuit and aims to elevate the region’s presence in global motorsport.
