About Maxwell Root

Maxwell Root is a professional racing driver hailing from San Diego, California, born on February 14, 1999. Root's racing journey began with motocross at a young age, competing at various Southern Californian MX tracks before transitioning to high-performance off-road UTVs. His passion for competition led him to sports car racing, commencing his road racing career in the 2017 Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy USA series. He exceeded expectations by winning the opening round at Thunderhill Raceway Park in his first professional sports car race. Root finished his inaugural season as vice-champion in the Pirelli Cup Trophy USA Diamond-class championship, podiuming every weekend.

In 2018, Root received the prestigious IMSA Hurley Haywood GT3 Cup Scholarship. He then moved to the IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA series, finishing 4th overall in the Platinum division. 2019 saw him achieve multiple race wins and 13 podium finishes out of 17 races, ultimately becoming the vice-champion of the IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA. The following year, 2020, marked a significant milestone as he dominated and won the GT World Challenge America Am Championship in a GT3R, with three overall podium finishes.

Currently, Root is pursuing business studies at Pepperdine University. Beyond racing, his interests include road rally driving, drifting, UTVs, motocross, road cycling, and mountain biking. Recent results include a win at Sebring in the Pirelli GT4 America - Pro/AM in May 2024.
