Dilantha Malagamuwa

Dilantha Malagamuwa, born on June 24, 1963, is a highly celebrated Sri Lankan racing driver. He is currently racing for Dilango Racing Team, which he founded in 2009. Dilantha's racing journey began at the age of 16, winning a motorcycle race, fueled by encouragement from his sisters. In 1983, he participated in his first international race in Calcutta, India, finishing 6th. A pivotal moment came after this race when he met Japanese motorbike racer Matsumoto Kenmei, who persuaded him to expand his racing career in Japan.

Dilantha's career boasts numerous achievements. In 1995, he became the first non-Japanese Asian to win the N1 Championship in Japan, driving a BMW M3. He was also felicitated by the then-Prime Minister of Japan for being the first non-Japanese Asian to compete in Formula Nippon (F3000). Other notable accomplishments include multiple wins in the Malaysia Super Car Series (2006, 2007), a championship in GT Asia (2010), and a championship in the Asian Le Mans Series (2013). In November 2017, he secured 3rd place in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo World Finals (AM class), making him the first Sri Lankan to achieve a world title in motorsports.

Beyond racing, Dilantha is known for his contributions to promoting motorsports and road safety in Sri Lanka. His racing school, "Dilango Racing," has received accolades for its contribution to leisure sports. In 2018, he was honored as the Sri Lankan of the Year in the sports category. Throughout his career, Dilantha has accumulated over 400 podium finishes and has represented Sri Lanka with pride on the global stage. He has also been recognized for his efforts in promoting Sri Lanka tourism.
