Theodore Giovanis

Theodore "Ted" Giovanis, born on December 27, 1945, is an American racing driver, team owner, and philanthropist who defies conventional expectations in the racing world. Giovanis began his professional racing career relatively late in life, joining the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge in 2006 at the age of 61. He is the founder and a driver for Team TGM, a championship-winning team that competes in major North American road racing series, including the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge, driving Aston Martin Vantage GT4 machines. In 2018, Team TGM clinched the Michelin Pilot Challenge Grand Sport (GS) class championship. Giovanis himself secured the International GT Championship at Daytona in 2020 and the IMSA GS Bronze Championship in 2024, co-driving with Hugh Plumb. He made his IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship debut in the 2021 Rolex 24 At Daytona.

Beyond racing, Giovanis has had a long and impactful career in healthcare. He is the President and Founder of the Jayne Koskinas Ted Giovanis Foundation for Health and Policy, which supports research in health policy and clinical areas. In May 2023, he donated $35 million to Johns Hopkins Medicine to establish the Giovanis Institute for Translational Cell Biology, dedicated to studying cancer metastasis. Giovanis is also an author, sharing life lessons learned from racing in his book "Focus Forward: Life Lessons from Racing." His diverse achievements reflect a commitment to both speed and significant contributions to society, proving that age is no barrier to pursuing passions and making a difference.
