Katherine Legge

Katherine Legge, born on July 12, 1980, is a British professional racing driver with a diverse and impressive career spanning various motorsport disciplines. Currently residing between Syresham, Northamptonshire, and Indianapolis, Indiana, Legge has broken barriers and set records throughout her career. Notably, she holds the record for the fastest qualifying effort by a woman in Indianapolis 500 history, set in 2023. In March 2025, she became the first female driver to participate in a NASCAR Cup Series race since 2018, driving the No. 78 Chevrolet for Live Fast Motorsports at Phoenix Raceway.

Legge's career began in the UK, competing in Formula Three, Formula Renault, and Formula Ford. In 2005, she transitioned to the Toyota Atlantic Championship in North America, where she achieved a historic victory at Long Beach, becoming the first woman to win a major open-wheel race in North America. Her success continued with wins at Edmonton and San Jose, ultimately finishing third in the championship. Over the years, she has showcased her talent in IndyCar, Champ Car, IMSA SportsCar Championship, and even tested for Formula One with Minardi in 2005, being the first woman to do so since 1992.
