Born in Wixom, Michigan, Bennett's passion for motorsports ignited early, leading him to begin racing karts in 1982. By 1986, he transitioned to racing in prominent series such as SCCA, Trans-Am, IMSA, ARCA, and Indy Lights, demonstrating his adaptability and skill across different vehicle types and racing formats.

Bennett's early success includes winning the 1987 SCCA National Division Championship in GT-1, accompanied by four wins and four track records. That same year, he was awarded the first SCCA Rookie of the Year award while driving a GT1 Camaro. Further accolades include being named the SVRA Rookie of the Year in 1990. In 1991, he achieved an impressive eighth-place overall finish at the Daytona 24 Hours, securing third in his class while driving a Roush Racing Mustang, contributing to Roush's first and only 1-2-3 finish in GTO. In 1993, Craig won the Autoweek Can-Am Challenge Championship.

Beyond professional racing, Bennett is involved in the restoration of high-end race cars and road cars as VP of RM Motorsports in Wixom, MI. Although he experienced a severe crash in 2016 that took him away from driving, his passion for motorsports never diminished.
