James Christopher "Jamie" McMurray, born on June 3, 1976, is a former American professional stock car racing driver and currently works as an analyst for Fox NASCAR and CW. McMurray's journey in racing began in his home state of Missouri, where he honed his skills in go-karts, achieving multiple U.S. karting titles between 1986 and 1992, and later transitioning to late-model stock cars. He quickly ascended through the ranks, making a name for himself in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and Xfinity Series before landing a full-time ride in the NASCAR Cup Series.
McMurray competed full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series from 2003 to 2018. He is celebrated for his unexpected victory in just his second Cup Series start in 2002, filling in for an injured Sterling Marlin. Driving the No. 42 car for Chip Ganassi Racing for a significant part of his career, McMurray achieved considerable success. His most notable accomplishments include winning the 2010 Daytona 500 and the 2010 Brickyard 400. He is one of only three drivers to accomplish this feat in the same year. Other significant achievements include winning the 2014 Sprint All-Star Race and the 2015 Rolex 24 at Daytona.
Throughout his NASCAR Cup Series career, McMurray secured 7 wins, 11 poles, 63 top-5 finishes, and 169 top-10 finishes in 584 starts. He also earned the 2003 NASCAR Cup Series Rookie of the Year award. After stepping away from full-time racing, McMurray continued to participate in the Daytona 500 in 2019 and 2021. Beyond the track, McMurray is known for his philanthropic efforts through the Jamie McMurray Foundation, which supports Autism Speaks and other children's charities. He is also an avid runner, having completed multiple marathons.
