Liam Lawson, born on February 11, 2002, is a New Zealand racing driver who currently competes in Formula One for Red Bull Racing. Lawson's motorsport journey began at the young age of seven with competitive kart racing. His early talent quickly became apparent as he secured numerous karting championships across Australasia. Mentored by three-time New Zealand Grand Prix winner Ken Smith, Lawson transitioned to junior formulae in 2015, marking his arrival by winning the New Zealand Formula Ford Championship as a privateer.
Lawson's career gained momentum with runner-up finishes in the 2017 Australian F4, 2018 ADAC F4, and 2019 Euroformula Open championships. A significant milestone came in 2019 when he clinched the Toyota Racing Series title with M2 Competition. Since 2019, Lawson has been a member of the Red Bull Junior Team.
From 2022 to 2024, he served as a reserve driver for both Red Bull and AlphaTauri (later rebranded as RB). His Formula One debut occurred at the 2023 Dutch Grand Prix, stepping in for an injured Daniel Ricciardo at AlphaTauri. During his five-race stint, Lawson earned his first F1 points in Singapore. In 2024, he permanently replaced Ricciardo at RB starting from the United States Grand Prix. For the 2025 season, Lawson was promoted to a full-time seat with Red Bull Racing, partnering with Max Verstappen.
