Howson's career began in international motorsport in 2001 with the Formula Renault Winter Championship. After that, he participated in the Formula Ford Winter Championship, Avon Tires Junior Formula Ford Championship, British Formula Ford, British Formula BMW, Formula BMW World Final, British Formula Renault 2.0, Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain, Asian GT Championship, Asian Formula 3, and Japanese Formula 3.
Howson achieved a significant milestone in his career by winning the LMP2 class at the 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans. He shared the victory with Richard Bradley and Nicolas Lapierre. He has also competed in the FIA World Endurance Championship. His career includes racing with teams such as KCMG.
