Born on February 20, 2004, the 21-year-old from Hawkes Bay began his racing journey in karts at the age of six, amassing numerous regional and North Island titles in New Zealand and Australia. In 2023, Rooney transitioned to car racing, making a mark in the Toyota 86 Championship. He quickly adapted to the new discipline, showcasing his talent and determination.
