Hal Prewitt

Harold "Hal" D. Prewitt, Jr., born October 1, 1954, is a multifaceted individual hailing from Hutchinson, Kansas, who has left his mark on the worlds of technology, art, and motorsport. Residing in South Beach, Miami Beach, Florida, Prewitt's journey began in Daytona Beach, Florida, where he fostered his early interest in racing, participating in SCCA events in the 1970s. He returned to racing more seriously in 2004, attending the Skip Barber Racing School. He transitioned into a professional-level driver, competing in numerous international and North American endurance road races.

Prewitt distinguished himself in endurance racing, participating in events such as the 24 Hours of Daytona, 24 Hours Nürburgring, Dubai 24 Hour, 24 Hours of Barcelona, and Silverstone Britcar 24-Hour. By his final year of racing in 2015, he had driven in nearly 200 endurance or sprint races worldwide. He was the No. 1 American and finished 4th overall out of 819 international drivers from 58 countries in the 2015 International Endurance Series Championship. Overall, he qualified for 200 races (140 sprint and 60 endurance) and drove in 30 endurance events (24 hours or longer) at 33 tracks. He retired from racing in 2015 with a record of 73 firsts, 30 seconds, and 10 third-place finishes in 180 starts.

Beyond racing, Prewitt is also an artist, photographer, businessman, and inventor. An early pioneer in the personal computer revolution, Prewitt developed computer technology and is credited with inventing hard disk drives and the world's first local area network (LAN) for IBM's first portable computer, the IBM 5100, and their first desktop computer, the IBM 5120. He also trademarked Hotplug, a standard method for replacing computer components without shutting down. He has been creating art since his teenage years, working in various genres and mediums, and has even opened his own gallery to showcase his photography.
