Ryo Michigami, born on March 1, 1973, is a highly accomplished Japanese racing driver with a career spanning several decades. Michigami began his racing journey in Japanese Formula 3, showcasing early talent with a fifth-place finish in 1994. His career then progressed into the Japanese GT Championship (now Super GT), where he became a prominent figure. Driving primarily for Honda teams, Michigami secured the series title in 2000, marking Honda's first championship in the series. Beyond this championship victory, he has claimed eight wins in the GT500 class and a total of three wins at the prestigious Suzuka 1000km race.
Michigami's commitment to Honda is evident through his long-standing relationships with teams like Mugen and Dome. After initially stepping back from full-time racing, he founded the Drago Corse team, demonstrating his entrepreneurial spirit and continued passion for motorsports. The team has competed in Super GT and All-Japan Formula Three. In 2017, Michigami expanded his horizons, participating in the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) with a factory-backed Honda Civic, achieving a historic podium finish at Macau as the first Japanese driver in the series to do so.
