Oliver Clark Askew, born on December 12, 1996, is a highly accomplished American racing driver. Hailing from Melbourne, Florida, and raised in Jupiter, Askew began his racing journey in karting at the age of eight. His early successes included impressive finishes in the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals and a victory in the BNL Senior Max series during his European debut in 2015. This early promise paved the way for his entry into open-wheel racing.
Askew's career gained significant momentum as he climbed through the Road to Indy ladder. He secured the USF2000 National Championship in 2017, earning a scholarship to compete in the Pro Mazda series. In 2019, Askew dominated the Indy Lights Championship with Andretti Autosport, achieving seven poles, fifteen podiums, and seven wins, including the prestigious Freedom 100 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This dominant performance earned him a $1.1 million scholarship to race in the 2020 NTT IndyCar Series.
His IndyCar career began with Arrow McLaren SP in 2020, where he demonstrated potential with a podium finish at Iowa Speedway. Although a concussion sustained from a wreck at the Indy 500 impacted his initial IndyCar season, Askew has continued to pursue opportunities in various racing series, including sports cars and Formula E, even working as a commentator for Formula E. Askew's diverse racing background and bilingual proficiency in Swedish, due to his mother's heritage, makes him a well-rounded and respected figure in motorsports.
