Craig Andrew Lowndes OAM, born on June 21, 1974, is a highly celebrated Australian racing driver. Lowndes' career is decorated with three V8 Supercar Championship titles (1996, 1998, 1999) and seven Bathurst 1000 victories. Lowndes began his racing journey in go-karts at the age of nine. Progressing through Formula Ford and Formula Holden, he made his debut in the touring car scene in 1994 with the Holden Racing Team.
Lowndes' transition to full-time Supercars racing in 1996 was meteoric, securing the championship title in his debut season, followed by wins at Sandown 500 and Bathurst 1000. In 1997, he briefly pursued a Formula 1 dream in International Formula 3000 before returning to Australia. After racing with Holden until 2001, Lowndes made a jump to Ford. In 2005 Lowndes joined Triple Eight Race Engineering.
Lowndes announced his retirement from full-time driving in 2018 but continued as a co-driver. He holds the record for the most Bathurst 1000 podiums, with 14. Lowndes was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in 2012 for his contributions to motorsport and road safety education. In 2019, he was inducted into the Australian Motor Sport Hall of Fame.
