Andrew Miedecke, nicknamed "Mad Andy," is a well-known Australian racing driver with a career spanning several decades and multiple racing disciplines. Born in Tasmania on December 17, 1949, Miedecke's passion for motorsport ignited early. He began his racing journey in open-wheel cars, competing in Formula Ford and Formula 3, even venturing to England to race. He later achieved success in Australian Formula 2 and Formula Pacific, earning his "Mad Andy" moniker for his spectacular and sometimes crash-filled driving style.
Miedecke transitioned to touring car racing in the late 1980s, becoming a prominent figure in Group A touring cars. He drove for his own team, Miedecke Motorsport, as well as for high-profile teams alongside racing legends like Peter Brock. Miedecke even won a NASCAR title. After taking some time away, Miedecke returned to racing in the Touring Car Masters series.
Miedecke's career highlights include multiple podium finishes in the Australian Drivers' Championship, a pole position in touring cars at Sandown, and a win in the Australian Endurance Championship.
