Peter Fitzgerald

Peter Fitzgerald, born on February 19, 1950, and passed away on September 27, 2024, was a well-known and successful Australian motor racing driver. Fitzgerald began his racing career in 1977 and quickly became a prominent figure in production car racing, particularly with Porsche vehicles, but also achieving success with Toyota, Mitsubishi and Holden. His skill was evident through strict controls on vehicle modifications and he secured multiple championship wins and endurance race victories.

Fitzgerald's accomplishments include winning the Bathurst 3 Hour GT Production Enduro, the Australian GT-Production Car Championship, and the Australian Production Car Championship multiple times. He also achieved a class win and fourth outright at the Bathurst 1000 in 1991, partnering with Formula 1 World Champion Denny Hulme in a BMW M3.

After retiring from driving in the Carrera Cup, Fitzgerald dedicated himself to managing the Fitzgerald Racing Team, providing support and expertise. He also established Fitzgerald Racing Services, catering to Porsche customers and offering performance enhancements and maintenance. His contributions to Australian motorsport were significant, and he is remembered as a versatile driver and a champion in both Production Car and Porsche categories.
