Peter Atwater

Peter Atwater is an American racing driver with a diverse background in motorsports. Currently, in 2025, he competes in the Mazda MX-5 Cup series with JTR Motorsports Engineering, running the No. 26 car. Atwater's racing journey includes experience in various series such as NASA SM, GTS3, Porsche GT3 Cup, SRO, WRL, Trophy West, and even a few races in the IMSA Carrera Cup. He has also participated in the Pirelli GT4 America series, teaming up with Luca Mars in a Mercedes-AMG GT4 under the JTR banner.

Before focusing on racing, Atwater had a successful career in finance. He held leadership positions at JPMorgan and Bank One, later transitioning to a role as CFO of Juniper Financial. He's also an adjunct professor of Economics.

Atwater's racing record shows participation in several races in the Porsche Carrera Cup North America - Masters, and the Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup Presented by Michelin. While he may not have secured wins or podium finishes yet, he has consistently participated and gained experience in different racing environments. In a Mazda MX-5 Cup race at St. Petersburg in March 2025, Atwater demonstrated his skill by avoiding multiple incidents and finishing 11th, earning the Takumi Award, which is awarded to experienced drivers in the series.
