Born on August 8, 1991, Afiq began his racing career in 2007. Within three years, he secured three karting championship titles and competed in the Formula BMW Pacific Series. In 2010, he was the champion of the Asia and Malaysia Rotax Max Karting Challenge.
Afiq's first experience in a Formula car was in 2008 through the Petronas Formula Experience (PFX) program. In 2010, he received a racing scholarship from Team Meritus-GP to race in the Formula BMW Pacific Series, where he finished 6th overall. In 2011, the series was renamed JK Racing Asia Series, and Afiq, with support from Team Meritus.GP & Petronas, became the vice-champion. Throughout his career, Afiq has achieved significant milestones, including winning 10 out of 18 rounds in the JK Racing Asia Series in 2011. In 2012, he continued to be supported by Team Meritus.GP Petronas.
