Panoramica del Pilota
Rinus van Kalmthout, known professionally as Rinus VeeKay, is a talented Dutch racing driver making waves in the NTT IndyCar Series. Born on September 11, 2000, in Hoofddorp, Netherlands, VeeKay began his racing journey in karting at the age of eight. Recognizing his exceptional talent, coach Pierre Redeker guided him toward a successful career. Instead of Formula 1, VeeKay set his sights on racing in the United States, following in the footsteps of his hero, Arie Luyendyk.
VeeKay's career in the American open-wheel racing scene began in 2017. Progressing through the Road to Indy ladder, he quickly proved his abilities, securing six wins in the USF2000 Championship and finishing second overall. In 2018, he dominated the Pro Mazda Championship, winning the title with Juncos Racing. Continuing his ascent, VeeKay competed in Indy Lights in 2019, earning six wins and finishing as vice-champion. His impressive performances earned him a coveted spot in the IndyCar Series.
Currently contracted with Dale Coyne Racing for the 2025 season, after driving for Ed Carpenter Racing from 2019-2024, VeeKay has already established himself as a formidable competitor. In 2020, he was named IndyCar's Rookie of the Year. He secured his first IndyCar victory at the GMR Grand Prix in 2021, becoming the youngest-ever winner of the event. VeeKay has also achieved significant success at the Indianapolis 500, earning a front-row start in 2021 and demonstrating his oval prowess. Outside of racing, VeeKay enjoys cycling and exploring the world.
