Alexander Charles Yoong Loong, more commonly known as Alex Yoong, is a Malaysian racing driver born on July 20, 1976, in Kuala Lumpur. He holds the distinction of being the first and, as of 2024, only Malaysian to have competed in Formula One. Yoong's journey in motorsports began in saloon cars before he transitioned to the Proton one-make series.
Yoong's Formula One career comprised 18 Grands Prix between 2001 and 2002, driving for the Minardi team. Beyond Formula One, Yoong has participated in various racing series, including the CART World Series, Porsche Carrera Cup, V8 Supercars, and the A1 Grand Prix series, where he achieved three victories between 2005 and 2008.
