Mark Smith, born on April 10, 1967, is a former American racing driver with a diverse and successful career. Smith began karting at 14, securing six championships across various IKF divisions. He transitioned to Formula Ford in 1985, achieving four race wins over two seasons before stepping up to Formula Super Vee.
His career highlights include winning the 1989 United States Formula Super Vee Championship, with an impressive record of 5 wins and 4 pole positions. Smith continued his ascent in Indy Lights from 1990 to 1992. During his Indy Lights stint, he consistently performed well, finishing 3rd in the series points as a rookie and improving to 2nd in 1991, capturing 3 wins and 5 poles along the way.
In 1993, Smith debuted in the CART IndyCar Series with Arciero Racing. Despite the team's limited budget and older equipment, he managed two top-10 finishes early in the season.
