Jared Thomas, born on October 16, 1997, is an accomplished American racing driver and team owner, currently competing in the Mazda MX-5 Cup. Hailing from North Vernon, Indiana, the 27-year-old has quickly made a name for himself in the world of motorsports, demonstrating both driving talent and entrepreneurial acumen. Thomas is the owner of JTR Motorsports Engineering.
Thomas's racing journey began with regional Spec Miata competition, where he honed his skills while pursuing a motorsport engineering degree at IUPUI. His performance in the 2019 Spec Miata series earned him an invitation to the Mazda Road to 24 Shootout, where he emerged as the winner, securing a $100,000 scholarship for the 2020 Global MX-5 Cup season. In his debut MX-5 Cup season, driving for Carter Racing Enterprises, Thomas showcased his potential with a runner-up finish at Road America. In 2024, Thomas embarked on full-time efforts in both MX-5 Cup and Sprint Challenge competition and he also won the series' maiden oval exhibition event at Martinsville Speedway. Thomas’s Sprint Challenge exploits proved his most fruitful in 2024, as he came home champion of the Sprint Challenge national championship, claiming 11 victories in the headline 992 Pro-Am class over the course of the 14-race season. Most recently, in March of 2025, Thomas won Round Three of the Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup at the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.
Beyond his driving achievements, Thomas is the owner of JTR Motorsports Engineering, a race-winning organization. JTR Motorsports Engineering is a full-service race shop as well as an engineering firm based out of North Vernon, Indiana. JTR has a diverse racing resume successfully completing in karts, asphalt late models, and sports cars all at the highest levels for the past 25 years. The large amount of experience has allowed JTR to put together one of the best engineering staffs in the industry and excels at developing drivers on and off the track by offering coaching and marketing plans that bring value to partners and sponsors.
