Nils Ballerstein

Nils Ballerstein is a German racing driver who, as of 2023, was 28 years old. While information on his racing career is limited, he participated in the ADAC Procar - Division III series in 2014 and 2015. In 2015, driving for Heide Motorsport, he finished 8th in the series. Across 6 races, he achieved 6 podium finishes.

Beyond racing, Ballerstein has also made contributions to automotive engineering. He gained recognition for his work at Bugatti, where he developed a "Dimple Airscoop," a morphable outer skin for the Bugatti Bolide's air intake. This innovative design, inspired by the dimples on a golf ball, improves the car's aerodynamics by reducing drag and lift. Ballerstein began this project as part of his master's thesis in 2019 and continued it as a doctoral thesis project with Bugatti's New Technologies department. He also appears to be affiliated with Technische Universität Braunschweig.
