George Russell, born on February 15, 1998, is a British racing driver currently competing in Formula One for Mercedes. Hailing from King's Lynn, Norfolk, Russell's journey in motorsport began with karting at the age of eight. His talent was evident early on, securing British championships in his cadet class. Progressing through the ranks, he achieved success in Formula 4, Formula 3, and GP3, winning the GP3 championship in 2017. In 2018, he won the Formula 2 Championship.
Russell made his Formula 1 debut in 2019 with Williams, where he spent three seasons. Despite driving for a team often at the back of the grid, his performances earned him the nickname "Mr. Saturday" due to his impressive qualifying results. In 2020, he had a memorable opportunity to replace Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes for the Sakhir Grand Prix, showcasing his potential by nearly winning the race.
In 2022, Russell joined Mercedes full-time, partnering with Hamilton. That year, he secured his first Formula 1 victory at the Brazilian Grand Prix, marking Mercedes' only win of the season.
