Josef Newgarden

Josef Nicolai Newgarden, born on December 22, 1990, is an accomplished American racing driver who currently competes in the IndyCar Series, driving the No. 2 Team Penske Dallara/Chevrolet. He is a two-time IndyCar Series Champion (2017, 2019), and a two-time Indianapolis 500 winner (2023, 2024). In 2024, he also won the 24 Hours of Daytona, becoming one of only 16 drivers to win both the Indy 500 and the 24 Hours of Daytona.

Newgarden's racing journey began at the age of 13 in karting, where he quickly demonstrated his talent by securing four championship titles in 2005 and 2006. He transitioned to open-wheel racing in 2006, and in 2008, he became the first U.S. driver to win a Formula Ford Festival title while racing for Team USA in England. His European career commenced in 2009, where he finished as runner-up in the British Formula Ford Championship. In 2011, Newgarden returned to the United States and dominated the Indy Lights Series, winning the championship with five wins and ten podiums in 14 races.

Since joining Team Penske in 2017, Newgarden has established himself as one of the most consistent and successful drivers in IndyCar. As of 2025, he has accumulated 31 IndyCar Series wins, making him the winningest active American driver in the series and placing him among the top 10 on the all-time wins list. Known for his exceptional skills on ovals, Newgarden has won 17 times on those circuits. Off the track, Newgarden is the co-author of "Josef's BIG Dream," a children's book, and enjoys traveling and various athletic activities.
