Bryan Herta, born on May 23, 1970, is a versatile figure in the world of motorsports, transitioning from a successful racing driver to a prominent team owner and strategist. Hailing from Warren, Michigan, he demonstrated his racing prowess early on, securing championship titles in the Barber Saab Pro Series in 1991 and the Indy Lights Championship in 1993. His dominance in the 1993 Indy Lights season, marked by seven victories, foreshadowed his potential in higher echelons of racing.
From 1994 to 2006, Herta competed in major North American open-wheel series, including CART and IndyCar, achieving four race wins. A defining moment in his CART career was his back-to-back victories at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in 1998 and 1999, both from pole position, solidifying his reputation as a road course specialist. While driving for Andretti Green Racing in the IndyCar Series, Herta added two more wins to his resume, including a memorable victory at Michigan International Speedway in 2005, where he edged out his teammate Dan Wheldon.
Since retiring from driving, Herta has made a significant impact as a team owner with Bryan Herta Autosport. His team achieved remarkable success, winning the 2011 Indianapolis 500 with Dan Wheldon and the 2016 Indianapolis 500 with Alexander Rossi, in partnership with Andretti Autosport. Beyond team ownership, Herta also serves as a race strategist, currently working with Andretti Autosport in the IndyCar Series, further showcasing his deep understanding and passion for the sport.
