Paul O'connell

Paul O'Connell is an accomplished Irish racing driver with a diverse motorsport background. Born on October 23, 1979, he has achieved significant success in various disciplines, most notably as a three-time winner of the Irish Hillclimb and Sprint Championship. O'Connell's career began in go-karts in 1994, and he progressed through the ranks, initially converting a Honda Civic for hillclimb events in 1999. His talent was quickly evident, securing a Novice win at his very first event.

O'Connell's achievements extend beyond hillclimbing. He won the Irish Formulaboss Championship in both 2018 and 2019, demonstrating his prowess in single-seater racing. He currently races in the Boss GP series in Europe, piloting Formula 2 and Formula One cars on iconic tracks such as Monza. O'Connell also holds two outright lap records at Mondello Park (National Reverse) and Bishopscourt Co Down. He made Irish racing history by achieving a podium finish in the FIA European Hillclimb Championship, placing third in the 2.0-liter single-seater class in St. Ursanne, Switzerland.

Throughout his career, O'Connell has consistently upgraded his machinery, showcasing his adaptability and determination. From his early days with a Hillman Avenger Tiger to piloting a Dallara World Series V6, he has embraced every challenge. While not from a motorsport family, he was mentored early on by Denis Hogan Snr. and later Donald Griffin.
