Johnny O'Connell, born on July 24, 1962, in Poughkeepsie, New York, is one of the most accomplished American racing drivers, particularly renowned for his success as a GM factory driver for both Corvette and Cadillac. His career began in open-wheel racing, where he clinched the Formula Atlantic Championship and Rookie of the Year honors in 1987. Although he briefly ventured into the Indy Racing League in 1996, with a top-10 finish in half of his four starts, O'Connell found his true calling in sports car racing.

O'Connell's achievements in sports car racing are extensive and impressive. He boasts four class wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, multiple wins at the 24 Hours of Daytona, including an overall victory, and a record-setting seven class wins at the 12 Hours of Sebring, where he was inducted into the hall of fame. His versatility and skill are further highlighted by his three American Le Mans Series titles with Corvette Racing and four Pirelli World Challenge GT championships with Cadillac Racing. He was also the 1993 IMSA driver of the Year.
