The LMP2 class witnessed an extremely tense battle for the overall championship, and the race landscape was completely reshaped during the second safety car phase midway through the race. Due to the timing of the pit stop windows for multiple teams, the United Autosports No. 5 car, the Inter Europol Competition No. 43 car, and the eventual winner, the Crowdstrike Racing by APR No. 4 car, were all forced to make emergency refuelings when the pit lane closed, and subsequently had to complete a full pit stop according to regulations, losing their track position.

The race returned to green flag status in the second half of the third hour, but with 45 minutes remaining, a collision between a 23Events Racing LMP3 and a GetSpeed #9 Mercedes-AMG triggered a Virtual Safety Car (VSC) and a third safety car phase, bringing the race to a final 20 minutes.

Thanks to a brilliant overtaking maneuver, Alex Quinn helped the Nielsen Racing No. 64 car take the lead, but they fell behind during the safety car phase. With their rivals all using new tires during the VSC phase, the British driver in his No. 64 car with its old tires was almost powerless to fight back.

Louis Delétraz launched an early attack after the race restarted, helping the No. 4 car take the lead and maintain it until the checkered flag waved. As the 2023-2024 Asian Le Mans champions, Crowdstrike Racing by APR emerged victorious in Saturday's first encounter at the Dubai round, securing their first victory of the season.

The Cetilar Racing No. 47 car, thanks to an outstanding performance by Ferrari official driver Antonio Fuoco in the final 20 minutes of the race, surged from fifth to second place, tying for second place with teammates Charles Milesi and Roberto Lacorte, further solidifying their lead in the standings.

Third place went to the RD Limited No. 30 car. It's worth mentioning that due to the unexpected injury and withdrawal of team driver Fred Poordad before the start of the race weekend, the team temporarily recruited James Sweetnam, a driver who had never participated in LMP2 racing before. He performed steadily in his LMP2 debut and ultimately joined James Allen and Tristan Vautier to successfully complete a podium finish.

The LMP3 class championship was fiercely contested on the final lap, with the Inter Europol Competition No. 13 car ultimately emerging victorious, with drivers Henry Cubides Olarte, Alex Bukhantsov, and Zhou Junting taking home the win.

In the final 20 minutes, Henry Cubides Olarte, driving car number 13, engaged in a fierce battle with Luciano Morano, driving car number 29 from Forestier Racing by VPS. Car number 29 briefly took the lead, but car number 13 overtook them on the final lap. Desperate to regain the lead, Luciano Morano mistakenly identified another LMP2 car from Inter Europol as an opponent and collided with it, leaving them to watch as car number 13 crossed the finish line first.

The GT class competition was equally intense. The Kessel Racing No. 74 car, after being penalized for running a red light at the pit lane exit, staged a comeback during the final safety car opportunity, with Dustin Blattner, Chris Lulham, and Dennis Marschall securing the class victory. This GT class leader further extended their points lead with two consecutive wins this season.

Racing Highlights

CrowdStrike Racing by APR continued their strong performance in Sunday's rematch of the Dubai 4 Hours, with George Kurtz, Malthe Jakobsen, and Louis Delétraz sweeping both races to victory!

From the opening stages, the three Oreca 07 cars operated by Algarve Pro Racing firmly controlled the pace of the race. American gentleman driver John Falb, driving the No. 20 car, overtook the High Class Racing No. 49 car to take the lead. After the first pit stop, the three cars formed a 1-2-3 lead. The safety car phase in the second hour further compressed the field, and Malthe Jakobsen, driving the No. 4 car, took the lead after the safety car restarted.

Afterwards, the No. 4 car's lead was only interrupted during pit stops by its sister car, the No. 25, and it maintained a firm hold on the lead for the rest of the time. During the penultimate pit stop, the Cetilar Racing No. 47 car boldly employed a short throttle strategy, allowing Antonio Fuoco, who took over from the No. 47, to lead the No. 4 car driven by Louis Delétraz. However, the Ferrari factory driver made a mistake, going too wide at the exit of Turn 9, and Delétraz seized the opportunity to overtake, helping the No. 4 car regain the lead.

Different tire strategies made the final stages of the race unpredictable again. The APR #20 car chose to change tires during the penultimate pit stop, while the other cars saved them for the final pit stop. With 25 minutes remaining, the #20 car completed its final pit stop, and French driver Sami Meguetonuif took the lead thanks to his earlier advantage. However, Delétraz overtook the #20 car while navigating traffic, regaining the lead.

Afterwards, Delétraz easily overtook the unconventional RD Limited No. 30 car and withstood the pursuit of his teammate Tom Dillmann's No. 25 car, ultimately crossing the finish line first by 1.638 seconds, securing a sweep for CrowdStrike Racing by APR in both races of the Dubai 4 Hours weekend.

Algarve Pro Racing's No. 25 car, driven by Michael Jensen, Enzo Trulli, and Tom Dillmann, ultimately finished second. Cetilar Racing's No. 47 car, although finishing third, was penalized with a 10-second timeout during post-race inspection for a refueling equipment violation, thus losing its podium position. The No. 20 car, driven by John Falb, Matthias Kaiser, and Sami Meguetounif, was promoted to third place. This means that Algarve Pro Racing's three cars swept all three podium positions in the LMP2 class of this race.

The LMP3 class also witnessed a dramatic and unpredictable championship race. In a three-way battle during the sprint stage, the 23Events Racing No. 71 car crew, consisting of Terrence Woodward, Ibrahim Badawy, and Matus Ryba, took the class victory.

It's worth mentioning that with 15 minutes remaining in the race, car number 71, which was leading in its class, suffered a sudden mechanical failure and dropped to third. However, Mattus Ryba, driving the car, made a furious comeback after restarting, and on the penultimate lap, overtook both CLX Motorsport car number 17 and Forestier Racing by VPS car number 29 to win the race.

The GT class saw a fierce battle in the final hour. Team WRT's No. 69 car, driven by Anthony McIntosh, Parker Thompson, and Dan Harper, secured the victory, marking the Belgian powerhouse's first win in the Asian Le Mans Series.

The Chinese team Origine Motorsport performed exceptionally well in this race. The No. 87 Porsche 911 GT3 R (992) led the GT class for a significant portion of the race, but a door malfunction during the final pit stop cost them time and prevented them from winning. However, thanks to the combined efforts of Yuan Bo, Ye Hongli, and Laurin Heinrich, the No. 87 car still secured second place in the GT class, achieving their second podium finish of the season.
